The client approached Art of Smart with a clear idea of what he wanted in his bespoke home in York. He had a specific requirement for a cinema/media room with high quality audio in the main living area. As a professional in the dry lining industry, he wanted as much as possible to be plastered in, so we made the use of plastered-in invisible speakers in a Dolby Atmos configuration and a discrete subwoofer to meet his requirements. We also installed a motorised lift system to make the screen and projector disappear into the ceiling when not in use. We often refer to this as a 'stealth cinema' as it hides out of sight when not in use.
Additionally, the client requested AOS to handle the standard electrical installation, but with the unique aesthetic of the property in mind, he did not want multiple light switches and controls cluttering up the walls, this was made more crucial as the property has a high percentage of glass walls. This led to discussions around smart lighting and the implementation of simple keypads and touch screens, which reduced all the controls and services into one simple interface. In addition to reducing keypad space, the glass also mean the temperature of the property was prone to fluctuating. To combat this we installed automated blinds that open and close depending on the current temperature and time of day.
Initially, the clients partner was concerned that the technology might be too complicated, however, Control4 offers a simple interface for controlling the home. The project was a massive success, with the client adding to the specification as the build progressed. He now loves being able to control everything with just his mobile phone.
Testimonials from the client and his wife show how delighted they are with the outcome and they even allowed us to use their home as a show room until they recently move away from the UK.
